Stamp carving can be used as inspiration for blocks, quilting or border patterns. I discovered some fascinating designs during a Stamp Carving for Quilters workshop with Maggie Weiss.

The idea of taking small bits of fabric and arranging them to form a picture – like a mosaic – sounded fun and creative, and I decided that this was a technique I wanted to try.

The quilt Tools of the Trade depicts some of the favorite tools in a quilt maker’s studio. The pattern for this quilt is available in my book Sewflakes: Papercut Applique Quilts and now you can also take a class to get started on your own version of this quilt.
