Kathy K Wylie Quilts
Biography

Kathy K. Wylie was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario.  After graduating from McGill University with a business degree, she moved to Toronto to begin a career in marketing with IBM Canada.  Seven years later, Kathy resigned from IBM to stay home and raise her family.  It was at this time that she began quilting.

It was love at first sight.  Quilting was a combination of so many things that Kathy enjoyed: sewing, needlework, fabric, colour, graphic design, even math!  Quilting became her passion.

Within four years, Kathy was teaching quilting classes.  She began by teaching a small group of ladies in her church group.  She then started offering workshops at a local quilt shop. Her focus is on teaching skills and techniques to help develop other quilters.  With twelve years of quilting experience, Kathy was accepted to teach at the national level as part of the faculty of Quilt Canada 2006.

Kathy began showing her work in 2002.  Her first entry into international competition earned a third-place ribbon.  She has continued to exhibit her quilts, and has received recognition locally, nationally, and internationally.  Her first gallery exhibit ran for six weeks early in 2008.  That May, she released her first book "Sewflakes" with C&T Publishing.

Since 2002, Kathy has been speaking and sharing her quilts with trunk shows throughout Ontario and beyond.  Quilting has brought her from one end of the country to the other – from Victoria, British Columbia to St. John's, Newfoundland.  She loves meeting other quilters and sharing her love and passion for quilting.

Kathy is interested in a broad spectrum of quilting techniques, but her style would best be described as "contemporary traditional".  She has explored her fascination with papercut appliqué and its possibilities for incorporating hidden images.  Now she is intrigued with ironwork and is finding new inspiration there for intricate appliqué designs.  As Kathy has developed as an artist, her work has taken on a distinct focus.  Using Biblical imagery and spiritual themes, Kathy's quilts are a reflection of her relationship with God and her journey of faith.
